Album Review: Trivium ‘Vengeance Falls’

Upon hearing the name Trivium, most people I’ve talked to say “Metallica wannabe.” Now, while I will admit that there are some similarities, there is one glaring difference. Trivium actually has some fucking talent. Their latest release “Vengeance Falls” only furthers to showcase their abilities. Starting with the first track, “Brave This Storm”, bassist Paolo Gregoletto and guitarists Corey Beaulieu and Matt Heafy (who also holds down vocal responsibilities) burst in with a chugging rhythm and drummer Nick Augusto (who unfortunately left the band after the recording of this album) starts going at break-neck speed, merging into a headbanging infectious groove. The track “No Way To Heal” reminds me of eighties British metal in its intricate guitar intro. “At The End Of This War” is just amazing. Starting off with an acoustic guitar intro and Matt singing a clean melody before erupting into an epic metal masterpiece. This album is a completely solid effort. There is not a bad track here. The album was produced by David Draiman of Disturbed, and you can hear his influence, but it doesn’t take away from what Trivium is about. And that is making real music that only continues to evolve with each release. Now I have to mention that on the special edition of “Vengeance Falls” you get three bonus tracks. The last being a medley of two classic Misfits songs done metal style. I am a diehard fiend for life so I have respect for anyone who lets their Misfits flag fly. They actually do a very good job of staying true to the songs while putting their own sound into. My only beef is don’t start “Mommy…” and leave me hanging. It’s just rude.
