Album Spotlight: The Offspring ‘Days Go By’

Days Go By is the ninth studio album by punk band, The Offspring and was released on June 26, 2012. The band has already released two singles, ‘Days Go By’ and ‘Cruising California (Bumpin’ In My Trunk)’. The album debuted at #12 on the Billboard 200 and has received mixed reviews. Ultimate Guitar gave the album 8.3/10 while Allmusic gave it 2 1/2 stars out of 5. Music critic Gregory Heaney of Allmusic said that it is “more for fans who have been with the band for a while than those just tuning in, and while die-hard Offspring followers will be able to see the shift in the band’s sound as part of a logical progression, new listeners would be better served by checking out some of their earlier, more urgent work.”, while Ultimate Guitar critic Brandon East said “Today, 23 years after their initial release, they are still releasing good music that is still vital, doesn’t sound dated and comes across as sincere”. This album is the band’s first to feature drummer Pete Parada, who joined the band a year prior to the release of ‘Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace’. Josh Freese, a session musician, also filled in for some of the drum tracks. The band currently consists of Dexter Holland on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Noodles on lead guitar and backing vocals, Greg K. on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Pete Parada on drums.
