How Lucrative is a Career in Porn?

I have a good job now but I dont like it and I’m considering a career in adult film but dont want to be on camera either. How did you prepare for porn and how much do you make directing and writing? More than 50k each year?

Cecelia,

If you have a passion for working in adult film, then absolutely go for it. However, the industry is not as lucrative as it once was and a lot of people are struggling for work with the declining economy of the XXX world.

I certainly don’t generate enough income writing and directing to make ends meet and have always had to hold down another job in order to keep my head above water.

I’m not saying that it’s impossible, I know several directors that do work full-time and that’s all they do, so it’s absolutely possible. If you are passionate about it and know about directing, shooting, and writing, then I say pursue it.

Don’t give up on your dreams and bring quality and passion to the table and you’ll find a place!

Some directors make 50K each year and more. However, you have to be doing that full time and only that. There hasn’t been an opportunity for me yet to work full time in adult as a writer and director, so I still hold down a day job to make ends meet. Believe me, if there was, I’d be jumping at the chance too!
