On June 14th, I finally got to see a band I had been looking forward to for awhile. That band being Eye Empire, a rock band whose roots are scattered all over the USA. Lead singer Donald Carpenter’s hometown is Fort Worth, TX, bassist Corey Lowery is from Fayetteville, NC, guitarist B.C. Kochmit is from Cleveland, OH and drummer Ryan Bennett hails from Richmond, VA. The band was formed in 2009 and it’s been non-stop work and touring since then for this quartet. I finally caught up with them at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Watertown, NY. The headliners on this lengthy bill were Drowning Pool, but for me, it was Eye Empire who stole the show.
The band’s setlist was comprised of 9 of the band’s harder songs, 3 of which are brand new. ‘Ignite’ started off the show and gave the crowd a preview of things to come from the band. They followed that up with ‘Idiot’ and ‘Great Deceiver’. Then they pulled a trick out of their magic hat and did a new song that was listed on the setlist as ‘Weakness’. Another kick ass, in-your-face song that kept the crowd moving. Next up was ‘Bull In a China Shop’ and ‘Angels & Demons’. After those 2 were a couple more new songs, ‘One Day’ and ‘War’. Both songs are a solid foundation to an upcoming new album from the band. They finished up with one of their most popular songs, ‘I Pray’. My only disappointment was that they didn’t play their newest single, ‘More Than Fate’.
I was very impressed with the band’s stage presence. At one point, Donald reminded the crowd to look out for one another and also reminded them of the band’s motto, ‘Love Respect Support’. Corey and B.C. are two balls of energy that the crowd can feed off. You can tell the band believes in what they’re selling too. I can’t wait to see them play live again and I definitely recommend catching them on the road when they come near you! The band is on the road for the rest of June, then they take a short break and hit the road again opening for Seether! For more tour info, check out their site eyeempire.com/tour.
