Without any further ado, tattooed pornstar Lola Fae brings you “Gateway to Healing!”
Cannabis and I have been best friends for 8 years now. In the early stages of our friendship, it would provide this lovely warm-blanket sensation and would relax my self-destructive urges. Originally, cannabis was the entry point to my healing journey. As cannabis was commonly referred to as a “gateway drug,” it was anything but that for me. When I began to smoke frequently, Cannabis helped me in beginning my path to stop self-harm, ease my anxiety, promote self-care, and gave me a way of connecting with the people around me who also enjoyed weed.
My personal love affair with Mary-Jane did not begin as this ritualistic romanization I previously spoke of. I began smoking pot when I was around the age of 16, during which I met my best friend Saige. Although at first I was not the curious Cannabis Kitten that I am today. My father, having a background in law and education, always ridiculed my older brothers for smoking weed while I was growing up. Despite the repercussions, they persisted. Naturally, I was curious as to why my brothers would fight so hard for something that my Father seemed to be utterly against. The first time I smoked I was with a group of friends in this boy’s drum room; my friend rolled a handful of joints and we hotboxed the entire room. In the end, somehow, I was the only one who remained dead sober. It took two years of active cannabis consumption in a variety of settings before I felt any effect, however, I remained persistent due to the simple desire of wanting to know what people got out of this.
The first time I actually got baked was when I got my first tattoo. After an hour of tattooing my nipples, the tattoo artist’s girlfriend came up to me and offered to smoke with me. I stepped into the backyard, and with sore nipples, I smoked a whole bowl to myself. I was actually starting to feel it for once – I attribute this to the fact that I was smoking with adults. In the corner of my eye I saw this dirty water jug. I inquired as to what it was and that was the moment I learned what a gravity bong was. I got pretty baked, ate food from a KFC which had been transformed from an old barn with the address number 420. It was fun, but I didn’t smoke much again until meeting Saige. She taught me how to have a positive relationship with cannabis. How to care for it, love it, have cute accessories for it, the whole nine yards. As I began to smoke more frequently, I subsequently got in trouble for smoking a few times. As a result of getting caught by The Man, I was forced to face my own sobriety. In the times I couldn’t smoke I had more time to learn about Mary-Jane’s history, culture, and modern-day availability. Combined with my love of botany- I loved to learn about the plant more and see how I functioned without it. Although I found myself equally as functional when sober, I always came back around to ingesting cannabis. I have been diagnosed with anxiety, depression, and have undergone a variety of traumatic experiences that have affected the way I function. In finding cannabis I have been able to overcome symptoms that manifest with these ailments. This has allowed me to heal; marijuana was the start of my journey of self-care and using natural medicines.
I am in love with the plant, how it has helped me, and how it benefits the world.
How I Medicate
The way I consume cannabis now looks different from when I first started regularly smoking. I’ve been smoking cannabis for 8 years now and here’s how my medicating habits have changed over that period of time:
I live in California and can smoke in my own home and in certain public spaces freely. When I was younger I had to constantly fight for my right to smoke, or be pretty sneaky, having lived in a non-legal state. Now, I can smoke weed and be brutally honest about it. I can smell like bud and feel at ease in any public setting. That’s a huge deal! Otherwise, I still smoke the same frequency as I did when I was younger.
I prefer to smoke often as it acts more like a light medication when you have a tolerance. When you smoke flower less frequently, it seems to hit you like a psychedelic tart. You may experience paranoia if you’re not in an ideal setting and have a non-existent tolerance. I would much rather feel relaxed and in full control every time I medicate, rather than enjoy it as a party-favor now and then. I’m not knocking that style of consumption- I’m just stating I can ingest a larger quantity of THC than most people and remain level-headed. The most “lazy” side-effect for me would only be getting sleepy during the later hours of the evening. I can do everything you can do – stoned. It allows me to relax and carry on through any bullshit that stands in my way.
How Cannabis Can Help You
This article is not solely about me being a cannabis consumer. It’s about how I’ve developed a relationship with the plant and have the utmost respect for how it can help a wide variety of patients. This is about how it’s helped me, how it can help you, and how it connects us!
Cannabis has an enormously long list of benefits. The most commonly known uses are for aiding in symptoms of cancer patients, pain relief, mood enhancers, sleeping aids, and is commonly used by patients with glaucoma. Queen Victoria used cannabis for aiding during menstrual cycles, Egyptian Pharoah’s used cannabis for birthing pains, and it is speculated that Christ even used the herb for healing!
Today these past implementations have been utilized to create a variety of products to help a vast array of people who want medicine without smoke. We have vaginal suppositories for cramps, cannabis lube (check out http://velvetswing.com/ for cannabis lube made by the fabulous Mistress Marlow), THC and/or CBD based edibles, gel pills, lemonades, the list is truly endless!
Any way that cannabis helps you in your life is valid. Developing a connection and respect for the plant is a beautiful journey. However, learning about cannabis, it’s chemical components, physical components, cultural aspects, and the beast the corporate cannabis industry has become is no easy feat!
This new Cannabis market is both amazing and overwhelming, especially to any newcomers. I am here to help you learn about brands, how to choose what is right for you, develop better stoner etiquette, learn about various methods of consumptions, and so much more you may never knew you were missing out on.
